Using Westlink
Westlink is used Monday to Friday to deliver a range of satellite television programs to over 180 regional and remote communities throughout Western Australia. Westlink covers education and training, professional development, seminars and public information for regional staff. Since most programs are live, interaction is possible using standard telephones and dialing a toll free number.
More Government departments and the private sector are taking advantage of this powerful technology to communicate more effectively with regional, rural and remote communities, and to save on travel and accommodation costs.
Westlink staff have the experience and expertise to ensure that your program will be a success.
Step 1 - Contact the Experts
If you are unsure whether Westlink will meet your needs, please contact us and we will outline what can be achieved. Refer to the list of Westlink sites to ensure that reception centres are available for you to reach the people you are targeting.
Westlink will also provide costings for the television service.
Step 2 - Plan
Ideally, allow at least three to four weeks to plan for the program. Apart from organising your presentation for television, this time will be needed to contact your targeted group and for them to book in to use their nearest Westlink site or CRC. We can help you with preparing information which should be sent out to your regional colleagues. If your program is aimed at a larger number of community members (eg all pastoralists, all accountants etc), then additional time may be needed for you to promote your program. Please keep Westlink informed of your promotional activities by forwarding us copies of all correspondence, flyers, press releases etc.
Sometimes Westlink programs can be arranged at very short notice. This applies to agencies who need to undertake rushed briefings or have urgent meeting updates.
Step 3 - Book Satellite and Studio Time
Having decided on the preferred date/s and time/s to conduct your satellite TV program, contact Westlink on 1800 99 11 11 to see if the time you would like is available. Westlink staff will check satellite availability. Often, specific times are not available, so be prepared to be flexible and have alternative times ready if needed.
To book the satellite, you must send us your request in writing (fax, letter or e-mail). Westlink's fax is (08) 9485 2002. We will then fax or e-mail confirmation of the booking to you. At this time you should also make an appointment to view the studio and to discuss your production requirements with one of our producers. Westlink productions can use powerpoint slides, a document camera, videotape and DVD. Following the production meeting, subsequent rehearsals can be arranged as required.
Westlink Studio
The Westlink studio is centrally located on the ground floor at Dumas House West Perth. The studio can cater for one person or a small group of people on-air at the same time. If you are considering doing a program, contact Westlink to book the studio.
