Pastoral Leases
Under the Land Administration Act 1997, both the Minister for Lands and the Pastoral Lands Board have separate and specific powers. The Department of Regional Development and Lands, Pastoral Land Unit provides operational support and advice in regards to pastoral lease administration for both the Minister and the Board.
Key current activities the Pastoral Land Unit are working on in 2010:
For the Minister for Lands:
- Review of pastoral lease rent valuation methodology to identify opportunities to reduce rent spikes and create rent smoothing.
- Review of the role and function of the Pastoral Lands Board.
- Pastoral land business enterprise ventures identification - Expression of Interest assessment.
- Contribution to whole of government action on Rangeland reform.
- Amendments to Pastoral Leases part of the Land Administration Act 1997.
For the Pastoral Lands Board:
- Leading the new Rangeland Condition Monitoring system roll-out from 2010 into 2011.
- Implementing improvements required to diversification Permit approval timeframes
