- State Govt transfers 15 parcels of land in Broome
- Transfer forms part of Yawuru Indigenous Land Use Agreements
The State Government has transferred 15 parcels of land in and around Broome to the Yawuru people under the Yawuru Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUA).
Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the transfer included a number of high value properties, desirably located in the centre of Broome.
“The transfer of these properties will provide the Yawuru people with greater financial security,” Mr Grylls said.
“They now have the freedom to retain the land for their own use or subdivide the lots and sell them for a mixture of residential and industrial purposes.
“I am pleased that the outcomes of the ILUA will allow the Yawuru Traditional Owners to participate in the exciting growth of Broome,” the Minister said.
The transfer includes prime land on Palmer Road with potential to be subdivided into 36 residential lots.
“The Government is supporting the Yawuru people in subdividing these lots which will deliver much-needed land for residential housing,” the Minister said.
“I am confident the Yawuru people will maximise this opportunity and am committed to supporting them in achieving the best financial and cultural outcomes possible through this transfer.”
