Regional Development Council

The Regional Development Council is the peak advisory body to the Western Australian Government on regional development issues.

The Council consists of the chairs of the nine (9) Regional Development Commissions, two local government representatives and the Director General of the Department of Regional Development and Lands.

Council functions

The functions of the Council are to:

Promote development in the regions
Develop policy proposals on regional issues
Assist commissions and relevant government agencies to work closely on regional issues
Report back to the government on matters referred to the Council.

The Regional Development Council meets 6 times per year.

The Regional Development Council and the Regional Development Commissions are supported by the Department of Regional Development and Lands which assists the commissions on strategic regional issues and provide executive support to the Regional Development Council.

Action agenda for regional development

An action agenda for regional development entitled the Regional Development Policy Framework was released by the Regional Development Council in January 2011. View media statement

The action agenda sets out the policy and project priorities that the Council has identified as vital to ensuring regional WA is a place where people want to live and invest.

The action agenda is structured around six key priority areas:

Housing and Services
Employment, Infrastructure and Skills
Health
Education
Social and Environmental Amenity
Leadership and Decision Making
